SAHARA STEAMERS

The Sahara STEAMers initiative has successfully nurtured the minds of Africa’s future innovators, impacting over 200 students across Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The program concluded in a regional competition in February 2024, showcasing the students’ remarkable talent and innovation.

The top honors went to Team Imperial Tech from Rise and Shine Secondary School in Uganda, who developed a Soil Moisture Detector to optimize soil quality and agricultural productivity. Team Smart Blind Walking Stick from St. George’s Girls Secondary School in Kenya secured the first runner-up position with their advanced assistive technology for visually impaired individuals. Meanwhile, Team Young Genius from Oshodi High School in Lagos, Nigeria, took home the second runner-up prize with their sustainable Automatic Wheelchair solution addressing mobility issues for the elderly. This stellar conclusion to the program highlights the potential of African youth in driving innovation and solving real-world problems.
