Sahara Group Foundation, the Personal and Corporate Social Responsibility vehicle of Sahara Group, a leading international energy and infrastructure conglomerate, has reaffirmed its dedication to healthcare improvement by donating state-of-the-art medical equipment to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

The medical equipment donated by Sahara Group Foundation comes after the THISDay Dome Covid-19 Isolation and Treatment Centre in FCT- Abuja – a 360-bed facility that became the model for other isolation centres in Nigeria, set up in response to the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, and is aimed at upgrading healthcare infrastructure, enabling accurate diagnostics and effective treatment, improving patient care, and reducing healthcare disparities.

The generous donation, including dialysis machine, automatic dialysis chair, suction units, monitors, oxygen tanks, medical bed, manual ICU medical beds, and drip stand, among others, was officially handed over to the hospital administration in a ceremony held at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital on Monday, November 6, 2023.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ejiro Gray, Director, Sahara Group Foundation, emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to making a difference globally across the energy value chain by providing innovative and sustainable initiatives that enhance the value of living for individuals and its host communities.

She said: “Sahara Group Foundation believes in the power of collaboration to drive positive change, and we are honored to contribute to the enhancement of healthcare facilities at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. This donation is a testament to our commitment to improving healthcare access and delivery in the communities where we operate.”

Darlington Ewaen Obaseki, Chief Medical Director, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, “We are sincerely grateful to Sahara Group Foundation for this generous donation of medical equipment. This contribution will undoubtedly enhance our ability to provide top-notch healthcare services to our patients. We are committed to providing the best possible care to our patients, and this donation will help us to achieve that goal.”
